At first I didn’t really like this album. The sound of Ordeal By Fire is very raw but the songs are mostly tranquil and atrmospheric. I thought the raw sound of the music didn’t really fit the atmospheric aspect of the songs. Throughout the songs there are burst of energy with a prominent role for the voice. Basically Ordeal By Fire plays gothic rock in the tradition of The Fields Of The Nephilim, only their music is much rawer.

Nevertheless after some playing turns I began to like the raw sound and recognized the excellent song writing skills of this band. The songs are really well crafted, building up the mood very carefully. Ordeal By Fire plays authentic gothrock with passion. If you like traditional gothic bands like The Fields Of The Nephilim, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and The March Violets this is record for you for sure.
